I purchased this rifle because I was looking for a reasonably priced, left hand bolt action rifle where the action and shell ejection was left hand oriented. The Savage fits the need perfectly for my 22LR target shooting. The wood laminate stock is nicely finished, the weight is commensurate with a target gun and the left hand action is exactly that. Having a stainless finish is always a plus (if you like the look) as one never needs to worry about corrosion and it is easy to see when the rifle needs to be cleaned!
The only down side was the bolt movement, which was tight and rough. The rifle needs to wear in. I hastened the process by using fine emory cloth (crocus cloth - grit - 1000) to polish the bolt at the scuff points and also the edge profile on the barrel where the bolt handle rides up and down. This has worked wonders in terms of improving operating smoothness. The bolt travel is a little long but acceptable. I have a 4-16X42 Nikon scope mounted with large size weaver base scope rings. I probably could have used medium size rings for this objective diameter, even with the scope ring cover on the end. At 50 yards it's relatively easy to get 1" groups shooting off a front rest. I'm working on getting the same result at 100 yards on a non-windy day. Trigger pull is OK (~4.5 lbs)from the factory. It has an accu-trigger which means it is adjustable with a smal tool provided with the rifle. One has to remove the trigger guard housing to make adjustments, which I have yet to try.
Bottom-line conclusion - The Savage Mark II BTV is good value for the money and good looking at the same time!
